Deep down inside the Il Duomo di Milano in Italy, one of the largest Catholic cathedrals in the world lies the electrical candle lit memorial crypt of Reliquie Di San Carlo Borromeo, a cardinal of the Catholic Church from 1564 to 1584. In 1584, during his annual retreat at Monte Varallo, he fell ill with "intermittent fever and ague", and on returning to Milan grew rapidly worse. After receiving the Last Sacraments, he died quietly on 4 November at the age of 46. | 2 October 1538 - 4 November 1584
