Blue boats, Essaouira
Essaouira's myriad of blue boats and trawlers filled with the activities of the fishermen tending their nets, is simply picture perfect. There is so much going on from dawn to dusk it's like a Where's Wally game!
Built in 1769 under the rule of Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah, Essaouira was once Morocco's largest port; all sorts of goods came from the interior of Africa to be shipped out to the rest of the world. It was designed by an Englishman, who had converted from Christianity to Islam, called Ahmed el Inglizi. He was also known as Ahmed the Renegade.
In the city's harbour, with seagulls filling the skies overhead, you see fishermen selling their daily catch of sardines, calamari, and other fish. All the restaurants nearby grill this fresh catch and sell it.
Wouldn't you just hate to be the boat at the back waiting to go out though ;)
