Day 12 : prompt : *LIGHT*
It was like the end of the world ... travelling across New South Wales, 'the safe route' up the Newell. So densely smoky in places. Apocolyptic.
But the day I travelled, along the safety, a fire had started at Coonabarbran. Planes flew overhead dropping water bombs, I remained overnight. The caravan parks and hotels, literally barren. Our tourist trade seriously effected. I woke to a very smoky world. Travelling today, the road remained open. Eerily spooky driving through the smoke haze, this was the world at around 10am, and the full 110kms from Coonabarabran to Narrabri. Three fire engines went roaring past as I was turning out onto the highway. And in my travels I must have passed 50 or 60 army vehicles, tractors, water vehicles, supplies, manpower, ... all travelling to where I had been, it gave me goosebumps and the proudness of these brave folk. I felt I was on a movie set. Apocolyptic.
And that, is Oz, on the outskirts of the big decimations. I cannot fathom, what it is like and how there are people that exist that don't live afraid, like myself, that go and face these dangers and help so many. Light, is the prompt. And this, is the sun, our light, for the whole trip. Completely blocked out, a shiny speck trying to break through to the earth.
