One thing I definitely love photographing is... birds. And the peacock in 'full bloom' is always going to be of interest when any of us come across their courting, right!
To find one on full display in mating season can be rare however this lovely fellow was discovered while I was walking around the bushland at Cataract Gorge in Launceston. Their displays of plume and guttural sounds, are interesting to witness.
Without owning a 'birding' lens I struggle to get good sharp images of birds - fortunate for me, peacocks don't flit or move as fast as their flying friends - so loved I was able to capture the glorious colours, the greens and blues, and with such a gorgeous sharpness in the eye.
Good luck and good fortune!
Well known for being a universal symbol of beauty, romance and love, the peacock also represents different meanings to different cultures, including power, strength, confidence, and immortality. Besides their physical beauty, another reason I feel their pull to us is strong.
While I watched, photographing from every angle known to mankind, this man, did not woo his woman, but he sure kept trying! :)

A prolific creative Ann is equally at home, as an avid photographer or visual artist - both allowing her to dabble on the edge of ultimate creativity!
When you don’t find her with a camera or brush in hand you will usually find her traveling somewhere within Australia in her 'ole Hiace, housesitting, or scooting off somewhere on a retreat, keen and eager to share her experience and knowledge of travel and photography!

Shaping the Perspective on Marie Island https://www.openroadfootprint.com/blog/2022/8/shaping-the-perspective-on-marie-island Openroad Spotlight "Shaping the Perspective"

Shaping the PerspectiveShaping the Perspective

What an intriguing positioning of the trees, as they highlight the historic homestead! Marie Island, Tasmania. I must have photographed 100 different angles - and love about 90 of them! Not much of an exaggeration. :) Working in both colour and black and white, the mono seemed to give that little piece of focus on the shapes created by the trees.
It is quite a walk from where the ferry lets you off, however, many hire bicycles on the island to get around. Next time, so will I!

Be transported to a place of peace, with this fabulously tranquil, monochromatic addition to your home or collection.

Early Light Tranqulity in Mackay https://www.openroadfootprint.com/blog/2022/7/early-light-tranqulity-in-mackay Openroad Spotlight "Early Light Tranquility"

Early Light TranquilityEarly Light Tranquility

I LOVE sunrises ... waking up to break in the new day. The hardest part of course is getting out of bed, but once you do, and arrive at a magical destination, it is all worth it! This image, in print, is one of my faves - the colors took over and were glorious with the reflections on the normally dirty brown river.
Hence, it has been given, spotlight position. Wake up to a touch of sunrise with this fabulous interior addition. Just before the sun rises the sky shows off its most powerful colours on the calm reflective waters of the Pioneer River, Mackay.

Cutting up lino https://www.openroadfootprint.com/blog/2020/7/cutting-up-lino

The third day : Thursday. New skills about to hit! Expressionism and a linocut. Start. Designing!
Creating a coVid 19 base storyline to this one I think. Will see how the initial play goes, and make a decision for next week. But I have certainly has a great flow of brainstorming and feel I am even close to what I want as a final piece. Given how long the actual cutting is going to take, thank goodness the creativity seemed to flow today.
However, I can see my eyes are going to be troublesome in this one. Intricate work ahead, but the print side of it, very fun. :)

Charcoal and mess https://www.openroadfootprint.com/blog/2020/7/TAFEvisualarts-Southbank-AnnParrott-daytwo

Day two: More charcoal. And... makeup something from the imagination! Whaaaaat haha. Well, black fingers was the days venture. Ain't no way to do this cleanly. Not grand results, but my what fun. Yes, I definitely love this medium greatly :)
As students, we are all starting to peek a little at others' work, this time next week, we'll all be besties! ;)

And the days of learning begin ... https://www.openroadfootprint.com/blog/2020/7/TAFEvisualarts-Southbank-AnnParrott-dayone

An out of comfort zone journey, Ann Parrott : Day one: Cert 3 in Visual Arts "Painting".
Only day one: and WOAH! Talk about get straight into it. Pick an easel. Pick up some paint. Mix it. Play with it. Create various greys.
Pick up some charcoal. And boom. 'DRAW!' But how? Well, somehow fumbled through the day. Such a long way from photography, I found such delight though in the intricacies of a different creativity.
The feel of the charcoal, the eye squint to see the light and shadows, the learning from my early high school days, like riding a bike.
Am I any good though? No, haha! But, hopefully with regular input, the days ahead see me improve and, BOOM, artist Ann, meet photographer Ann!

Stepping out of the comfort zone https://www.openroadfootprint.com/blog/2020/7/stepping-out-of-the-comfort-zone

CoVid19 has certainly made this an interesting year. Unable to travel anywhere, the first six months have been quite uneventful, and basically, for the whole world, our goal has been to just 'get through it'.
But, with no end in sight for the foreseeable future still, I feel I needed something to push myself out of the comfort zone I found myself wallowing in over the past six months. Perusing the TAFE website for courses, there were a few things that caught my eye. Particularly interested in Cert 3 of Visual Arts with a photography focus - last minute, changed me up to get right out of my comfort zone and remove the photography ;)
I signed up for Cert 3 in Visual Arts, so if nothing else, for four days a week over the next six months, I am a 'slightly mature age' student amongst the young generations! Out of comfort zone? You betcha!
